About the Student Research Workshop

The NAACL 2027 Student Research Workshop is a forum for student-led work in computational linguistics, natural language processing, and closely related areas of machine learning. Participants can present completed work, work in progress, or thesis proposals and receive feedback from reviewers, mentors, and the broader NAACL community.

Submission Categories

Archival and Non-Archival Tracks

Submissions in both categories may be archival or non-archival, based on the authors' preference. All accepted archival papers will be published in the NAACL 2027 SRW Proceedings. Non-archival papers may be submitted to any venue in the future except for another SRW, subject to the destination venue's policies.

Submission Route

Papers should be submitted through OpenReview by January 11, 2027. The workshop's OpenReview submission link will be posted here when available. An ARR commitment track is not planned unless a later official announcement states otherwise.

For pre-submission feedback, request mentorship by November 16, 2026. A complete paper is not required to request a mentor. Mentorship participants must still submit their paper through OpenReview by January 11, 2027 to be considered for the workshop.

Paper Length and Submission Requirements

• Long papers: up to eight (8) pages of content; accepted papers receive one additional page, for up to nine (9) pages.
• Short papers: up to four (4) pages of content; accepted papers receive one additional page, for up to five (5) pages.
• Both lengths allow unlimited pages for references and supplementary material such as appendices.
• All submissions, archival and non-archival, must follow the main conference's anonymity period and restrictions.
• Proof of the first author's student status is required during submission, by January 11, 2027.

Topics are expected to follow the broad scope of NAACL and ACL venues, including but not limited to:

• Computational social science and social media
• Dialogue and interactive systems
• Discourse, pragmatics, syntax, semantics, morphology, and linguistic theory
• Ethics, responsible NLP, safety, fairness, privacy, and policy
• Information extraction, information retrieval, and text mining
• Interpretability, analysis, and evaluation of NLP models
• Language grounding, multimodality, speech, vision, and robotics
• Large language models, agents, tool use, reasoning, and adaptation
• Machine learning for NLP, multilinguality, and machine translation
• NLP applications, question answering, summarization, resources, and benchmarks
• Sentiment analysis, stylistic analysis, argument mining, and human-centered NLP

Pre-Submission Mentorship Program

How It Works

1. Request a mentor by November 16, 2026. Use the student form to share your research interests and mentorship needs.
2. Get matched on November 23, 2026. Organizers will match students with mentors based on their research and support needs, then introduce each pair by email.
3. Choose what works for you. You and your mentor can arrange a Zoom meeting, exchange emails, or discuss feedback on a draft.
4. Submit your paper by January 11, 2027. To have your work considered for the SRW, submit it separately through OpenReview.

Participation is optional. Mentorship supports the development of your research and paper; it does not replace peer review or guarantee acceptance. Mentor-mentee introductions are made by email, so pre-submission mentorship is not anonymous.
